10 reminders for a better life

Over the past 10 years working in financial services, I have been humbled by life. Today, I share with you 11 essential reminders to live a better life, covering life itself, work, career and money.
Live an Authentic life / Life
“The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.” ― Carl Gustav Jung
To become who we truly are means to live an authentic life, and to for that you need a couple of things:
- Knowing what you want in life. You can do this by writing it down, google docs or notes.
- Clearly articulate what you need to do in order to get there (be specific, avoid being vague, but be realistic)
- Aim to make 1% improvements everyday.
Remaining true to yourself
This is an extension of being authentic to your self.
If you live in the past, you cannot own the future and surely you will make no progress. You also cannot control what other people think of you and how other people behave, but what you can do is control is how you respond.
Always remember, not everything needs a response. No response is a response in itself.
- Furthermore, what other people think of you is just an opinion. If this is good, stay grounded, but if it’s negative, it’s just an opinion, not a fact. That is for you to define and decide.
- Don’t be fooled by the mass majority. Question and interrogate statements before you follow.
Your Dreams
Surround yourself with doers and those already living your dream. When you do this, we force ourselves to take action.
Treating people
It doesn’t matter how dapper you look, how wealthy or strong you are. Treating people with dignity and respect is a key characteristic of successful people. If you fail to observe this, you will succeed at the expense of hurting someone. At some point in life, this will catch up to you.
